I'm positing a comment because I don't want to disturb my one word review.
The NY Times book reviewer, Lynda Barry, loved the book and in her glowing review she wrote:
"The real and the unreal are laminated so tightly in “Duplex” you find yourself suddenly lost; you don’t know where or when this book takes place, you don’t know what this book is about at all."
What's interesting is that I could use the exact same words to describe why I hated it.
